Dear Sir

Archallagan Plantation landfill

The Isle of Man countryside and environment is indeed a green and pleasant land, yet our Government seems determined to dump toxic waste in the heart of this countryside.  Yes, the Archallagan landfill issue is once again live, the Department of Local Government and Environment poised to lodge yet a further application to dump Bottom Ash at Archallagan.

If ever there was a site that is inappropriate then this has got to be it.  Vehicular access is difficult;  it is on the top of a mountain, which has visual as well as environmental implications.  I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to dump potentially toxic waste in an area where water will inevitably leach this waste into the surrounding streams and watercourses of Greeba, St Johns and Foxdale.

As prospective MHK for Glenfaba I have to say that this is one of the hottest issues in those surrounding areas.  There is little wonder that people have no faith in government in the face of dogged determination to create a site for landfill in such a location.

Now that it appears there are viable alternatives, perhaps not as conveniently in public ownership, the Government should stop wasting public money in furthering yet another application and use that money to pursue the alternatives.

No one wants these things on their doorstep but it beggars belief that a site on the top of a mountain has been selected as the best option.

Yours sincerely

Geoffrey Boot

Prospective MHK for Glenfaba
