Kings Cup weekend - Isle of Man winners Isle
of Man Air Racing Champion Geoffrey Boot and his wife Suzie proved winners over
the weekend of 12 and 13 August when they competed in two championship
races at Shobden in Herefordshire. They
came first on the Saturday, winning the Bev Snook Memorial Trophy, a superb
silver reproduction of a Spitfire.
The race took place around a 20-mile circuit based on Shobden Airfield
over the picturesque Herefordshire countryside and comprised six laps.
Geoffrey’s ex-military SIAI Marchetti SF260W averaged nearly 210 miles
per hour over the six laps, beating the other 24 competitors but only just, the
second place aircraft was 2 seconds behind, leading to a very exciting finish at
low level over the airfield in front of the large crowd of local supporters. The
next air race of the season is in early September for the Schneider Trophy on
the Places in all of the 16 races throughout the season cumulatively add up for the European Championship and the British Air Racing Championship. At present Geoff and Suzie are running 9th and 7th respectively in those championships. Geoffrey
is also a keen supporter of the new Manx aircraft registry and is looking
forward to being one of the first to sport and support a Manx registration on
his aircraft.
