Kings Cup weekend - Isle of Man winners

Isle of Man Air Racing Champion Geoffrey Boot and his wife Suzie proved winners over the weekend of 12 and 13 August when they competed in two championship races at Shobden in Herefordshire.

They came first on the Saturday, winning the Bev Snook Memorial Trophy, a superb silver reproduction of a Spitfire.  The race took place around a 20-mile circuit based on Shobden Airfield over the picturesque Herefordshire countryside and comprised six laps.  Geoffrey’s ex-military SIAI Marchetti SF260W averaged nearly 210 miles per hour over the six laps, beating the other 24 competitors but only just, the second place aircraft was 2 seconds behind, leading to a very exciting finish at low level over the airfield in front of the large crowd of local supporters.

Alas, success on the Sunday eluded them and although up with the leaders they only secured a 6th place.

The next air race of the season is in early September for the Schneider Trophy on the Isle of Wight .

Places in all of the 16 races throughout the season cumulatively add up for the European Championship and the British Air Racing Championship.  At present Geoff and Suzie are running 9th and 7th respectively in those championships.

Geoffrey is also a keen supporter of the new Manx aircraft registry and is looking forward to being one of the first to sport and support a Manx registration on his aircraft.

Geoffrey Boot is prospective MHK candidate for Glenfaba.
