Geoffrey Boot prospective candidate for Member
of the House of Keys (MHK) for Glenfaba, Isle of Man. . |
|||
| A beautiful
island: The Isle of Man has benefited from the longest continuous
parliament in the world. There are, however, ominous clouds hanging over
us. Although the Island has undoubtedly prospered over the last 15 or
20 years, our present Government has, particularly in the last five years,
made some very expensive mistakes in terms of poor oversight, lack of
business acumen and lack of scrutiny. It might be said that we have prospered
in spite of, not because of, our Government |
|
||
It is time we stood up for ourselves and imposed
Manx solutions. I believe the time for change is now: not just change
for change's sake, but change for better government. The House of Keys
would benefit from the influx of new members with good business and accounting
skills, coupled with a knowledge of negotiating legislation and regulation
both at UK and European level, from where it seems most of our new legislation
now comes. |

Skills I
bring: <<back to top>> |
||
My commitment
to you: How do we know what the electorate wants? Well that is a difficult question here in the Isle of Man. All too frequently people get elected and then vanish until the next round of elections, they fail to sample local opinion and to remain in touch with their electorate. I have already committed to a comprehensive pre-election
questionnaire, which I hope everyone in the constituency has received. |
|||
|
My prime objective is to sample local opinion and find out what you want and get to know you. <<back to top>> |
|
||
| Here today and
tomorrow: I also have great faith in our Local Commissioners and I want to work with them, not against them, to ensure that they have proper funding at local level. If elected I guarantee to put you, my constituents, first and stand up for what you want and need. . <<back to top>> |
